The African continent, and in particular West Africa, offers multiple opportunities for the aerial access market, which is growing in maturity, a Genie spokesperson said. “There is a notable demand for new or recent machines that feature the latest innovations and that meet today’s various international quality and safety standards to help improve the safety of teams on the jobsite. This is true for both the demands expressed by governments in calls for tender for public contracts, and the expectations of international customers that are active on the continent.”

To meet these demands, ICOM has been distributing and servicing Genie’s full range of telescopic and articulating boom lifts, scissor lifts, telehandlers, vertical mast lifts and push arounds since it took on the role 1 January.

ICOM gained its experience in lifting and access equipment as a longstanding partner of Morocco-based rental company Eurogrues Afrique, and said its resources and knowledge in sales, languages and African cultures complemented its understanding of transport requirements and country-specific regulations. “For end-user customers, this all adds up to a one-stop-shop in terms of expertise, equipment quality, service, training and the spare parts availability that they rely on,” said the company.

In addition, ICOM has a team of trained technicians who are experienced in the Genie product range. With 80% of end users involved in the oil, mining and shipping ports, a clear undertsanding of their requirements and the region’s economic challenges were also crucial factors in choosing it as a distributor, added Genie.
