New fully electric Böcker truck crane and work platform
07 September 2022
Manufacturer Böcker in Germany has announced an electric truck mounted crane on an electric truck carrier. The new AK 48e can also be used as an aerial work platform.
It is a fully electric crane and aerial work platform mounted on a 27 tonne 6 x 2 Mercedes eActros truck. In addition to the crane operating electrically, the new model travels to and from site under battery-electric power. Böcker said this development “starts a new era proving that the electrification of powerful crane technology and the elimination of fossil fuels on the construction site are already possible today.”
Another key feature of Böcker machines – the use of aluminium for structural elements – will also feature on the new model.
Announcement of the AK 48e follows the company’s recent announcement of a diesel-electric hybrid model, the AK 37e, an electric truck mounted crane on a conventional diesel powered truck carrier. That model followed soon after the announcement of the trailer mounted AHK 36e electric crane.
Electric Mercedes carrier
The Mercedes eActros electric truck is available as a 4x2 or 6x2 rigid, with either three or four lithium-ion traction batteries as standard. Each battery has a capacity of 112 kW-h, giving a total of 336 or 448 kW-h. The manufacturer gives travel ranges of 300 and 400 km, respectively. Recharging time, from 20 to 80 per cent capacity, is given as just over an hour for the three battery version, from a 160 kW supply.
The new AK 48e will be presented at the Bauma construction equipment exhibition in Munich, Germany, 24 to 30 October 2022.
More details of this new crane will be reported when they become available.
