Just a year since the launch of the Steyr Plus tractor that replaced the Kompakt, the top model in the new range has taken the Tractor of the Year title in the 70-150 hp ‘Utility’ category, in a ceremony on the first day of EIMA 2024 in Bologna, Italy.

The Plus decals on the 80-117 hp tractors return a respected name to the range, said Steyr, with history dating back to the Austrian tractor maker’s 1960s and ‘70s models. The new tractors are targeted at a similar sector of mid-sized farms, and compete in a power bracket that is the most popular in Europe. Such farms often now seek on their tractors the same technology usually found on larger machines. In this respect, the Plus incorporates multiple features that helped make it a winner for the pan-European panel of farm machinery journalist judges.

“We are delighted to receive the Tractor of the Year 2025 Utility Category prize for the 4120 Plus,” said Marco Lombardi, head of Case IH and Steyr brands EMEA. “This is a hugely important power category for all types of farm and agricultural business right across Europe, as well as for municipalities and forestry operations. The Tractor of the Year award is a great acknowledgement of the efforts of our engineering teams to develop a tractor to meet such diverse needs.”

The five models all feature four-cylinder FPT Stage V 3.6 L engines producing a particularly high maximum torque of 506 Nm on the 4120 Plus, the range topping winner of the TOTY Utility award. The S-Control 2 24F/24R powershuttle transmission provides two clutchless speeds in each gear, for more torque or speed on the move. A brake-to-clutch feature disengages drive while braking, easing work with a loader, while hydraulic flow (82 l/min), rear hitch capacity (4,700 kg) and gross vehicle weight (7,000 kg) have all been boosted. Electronic front hitch management ensures constantly even ground pressure is exerted by front-mounted implements.

In the refreshed cab is the familiar Steyr Multicontroller for fingertip operation, while for the first time at this power level a full precision farming package can be specified, including STEYR connectivity features for remote recording and monitoring, and S-Guide auto-steering. Further options include full cab suspension and adaptive steering.
