New York riceve il primo traghetto ibrido-elettrico

Harbor Charger al molo (Foto: Timothy Schenck)Il porto di New York ha ricevuto il suo primo traghetto pubblico ibrido-elettrico, che si dice rappresenti un "passo importante" nel trasporto marittimo sostenibile.
Denominata Harbor Charger, la nave utilizza un sistema di propulsione diesel-elettrico BlueDrive Eco, abbinato alla soluzione a batteria BlueVault, entrambi di Siemens Energy. È inoltre presente il sistema EcoMain, una piattaforma che consente all'operatore di monitorare l'attrezzatura.
Il nuovo traghetto può alternare tre modalità operative: zero emissioni, solo batteria e ibrido a batteria con riserva diesel.
La modalità ibrida a batteria ridurrà le emissioni di CO2 di circa 600 tonnellate all'anno, aiutando il Trust for Governor's Island a progredire verso il suo obiettivo di emissioni zero.
