Turbocharger Solutions International (TSI) emerges as Cooper’s new service extension

Cooper Machinery Services has acquired the turbocharger division of Archrock Services. The move allows Cooper to form a new turbocharger division, known as Turbocharger Solutions International (TSI). The division comprises Cooper’s turbine specialties team in Salina, Kansas, and Archrock’s McPherson, Kansas, division. No financial details were announced.

“We’re very pleased today to bring these two fine turbocharger teams together,” said Mitch Opat, TSI’s leader. “We’ve been spirited competitors for many years. Together, we will drive value and improve the customer experience.”

TSI will focus on providing new and repaired turbochargers for ABB, Caterpillar, Clark, Cooper, Delaval, Elliott and others, the company said.

The new addition to the Cooper family comes nearly two years after Archrock expanded its turbocharger facility in McPherson, Kansas. The expansion gave Archrock’s Turbocharger Group 26,750 sq. ft. (2485 m2) of work space for its turbocharger operations.

The facility, which has an additional 15,000 sq. ft. (1394 m2) of warehouse and inventory space, handles the manufacturing, remanufacturing, repairs and testing of turbochargers for the gas compression, power generation and petrochemical industries, among many others. The company held an open house for the facility on Oct. 17, 2018.

The acquisition, its fifth in 10 months, gives Cooper another service extension to its already diverse portfolio. After emerging from the former Baker Hughes, a GE Company’s (BHGE’s) reciprocating compression division last summer, Cooper went on to purchase four companies in five months – Epic International, Reciprocating Technology Services (RTS), Sinor Engine Co. and Hoerbiger’s Engine Legacy Solutions business.

“We’re adding companies that accomplish the same goals we have,” Sargent said in an earlier interview with COMPRESSORTECH2. “We’re trying to put all the pieces back together and be the best we can be.”
