Milence opens first two charging hubs for HD electric trucks and coaches
09 December 2024
Milence, a joint venture between Daimler Truck, the Traton Group and the Volvo Group, which was established to manage rollout of charging hubs for electric heavy-duty trucks and coaches has opened its first two locations.
Sited near Leipzig, Germany, the two stations have been strategically placed on major freight corridors which connect Berlin with southern Germany and Poland and the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
The hub at Hermsdorfer Kreuz, Thüringen, on the A4 has eight charging bays. The site at Vockerode, Sachsen-Anhalt on the A9 between Berlin and Leipzig has four charging bays. The locations feature premium amenities, including lounge areas, wifi, showers, and restrooms.
The sites offer recharging rates at up to 400 kW. Each of the connection points is optimised for driver convenience. Any model truck or coach can use the services.
Drivers will be able to pay using a choice of services, including the Milence app. The default charge is €0.399 per kWh (excluding VAT).
All charging stations use 100% green energy, while construction has been carried out to prioritise reduced CO2, including a concrete solution which is intended to have a 30-year lifespan.
As the largest road transport market in Europe, 30% of all European road freight passes through Germany. As such, it is a cornerstone for Milence’s future strategy, which will see other German hubs opened in Kassel Lohfelden, Koblenz, Himmelkron, Hüttenberg, Kirchberg an der Jagst and Recklinghausen.
Hubs are also under development in another 10 markets.
