Accelera by Cummins shows hydrogen power solutions at Hannover Messe
17 April 2023
Accelera by Cummins, a new business segment of the parent company, has unveiled its full hydrogen technology portfolio at Hannover Messe 2023.
The series of hydrogen technologies, which range from electrolysers to storage tanks, are said to deliver ‘end-to-end solutions’ for the decarbonisation of various industries, from hydrogen production though to storage, transport and utilisation of the fuel for mobile and stationary applications.
“Hannover Messe is Accelera’s first major European trade show as Cummins’ zero-emissions brand since our launch in March [2023],” said Alison Trueblood, general manager, Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies. She continued: “Together we’re in a new era of sustainability, working to secure a clean future for industries that were previously considered more challenging to decarbonise.”
On display in Hanover was Accelera’s fourth-generation fuel cell engine, the FCE150. The unit is described as offering improved power density, efficiency and durability. The fuel cell operate with zero greenhouse emissions. The cell is modular, allowing a series to be daisy-chained to a maximum output of 300 kW.
Potential applications include heavy- and medium duty trucks, buses, railway locomotives, off-highway equipment and maritime vessels.
The Hanover introduction follows Accelera celebrating the opening of its new Hydrogen Cell Systems production center in Herten, Germany. The new gigawatt-scalable electrolyzer plant in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain is due to open by the end of the year.
