AFC Energy proposes name change

The UK hydrogen fuel cell generator firm AFC Energy is considering changing its name to H-Power plc. The change will go before shareholders for approval at the company’s AGM on 16 April.

AFC is the company that has a 50/50 joint venture with Speedy Hire to rent fuel cell generators in the UK.

John Wilson, AFC’s CEO, wrote to shareholders on 23 March outlining the plan to change the name.

He said the company identity had to reflect more clearly its actual business; “The name H-Power has been chosen because it captures clearly what we do: creating, using, and converting hydrogen into power.

“It is purposeful, modern, and aligned with the markets we intend to serve as we enter this next phase.”

Wilson said the change would only happen if approved by shareholders; “If approved, the legal entity will remain the same, all existing contracts will continue unchanged, and shareholders will not need to take any action.”

Its listing on the AIM exchange would continue and shares would automatically trade under the new name once effective.

He said the change would mark a “meaningful step in our evolution. Over the past year, we have reshaped our strategy, strengthened our leadership, and focused our efforts on delivering hydrogen powered energy solutions that can be deployed reliably and at scale.”
