Atlas Copco updates ECO Controller on BESS units

Atlas Copco has launched a new version of the ECO Controller energy management system for its ZBP and ZBC battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The controller - which acts as the ‘brain’ of the unit to manage energy output and distribute loads onsite - incorporates several changes designed to improve user experience and efficiency.

The ECO is now able to communicate with third party controllers – including DSE, CAT, Cummins and Comap - to improve the modular setup of portable power plants.

Atlas Copco said it will be easier to create large, decentralised power systems from multiple energy inputs - from power generators, the main grid, renewables, and BESS units, or any combination of these.

A cleaner visual look

The controller has also been given a cleaner visual look and a streamlined interface, providing more monitoring data at one glance.

The latest iteration has integrated routines such as automatic calibration and charging derating, alongside configurable ‘recipes’ for various operational situations.

In addition, troubleshooting aids have been integrated to provide informative messages, centralised monitoring of all BESS components, detailed rack isolation and cell temperature data, and SD Card datalogging capabilities.
