Avevai, an EV manufacturer which has its headquarters in Singapore, has introduced the Iona XS, an all-electric last-mile delivery truck.

Avevai (which stands for Autonomous Vehicle, Electric Vehicle, Artificial Intelligence) describes the model as a kei car (a mini vehicle class in Japan) so as to give an idea of the vehicle’s compact size.

Measuring 3,700 mm in length, the Iona XS weighs 1,500 kg and has a total payload capacity of 500 kg. Top speed is 75 km/h. The truck is available in a choice of configurations, including box truck, flat bed and utility (drop side).

The model is available with a single 11.52 kWh pack or two packs offering 23 kWh total of storage (packs each weigh 105 kg). These respectively deliver a range of 100 or 200 km. Using the 3.3 kW onboard charger, the pack(s) can be recharged from 20 to 80% of capacity in about four hours.

The Iona XS is assembled in Xuzhou, China. Battery packs are delivered from Chu Lithium. These feature lithium iron phosphate (LFP) prismatic cells which offer a power density of 110 Wh/kg. Batteries have a four-year, 200,000 km warranty. Permanent magnet synchronous electric motors and control systems are supplied by Xuzhou Panshi and XEV.

Features include vehicle crumple zones for added occupant safety, together with ABS and EPS systems. In addition, there is ‘intelligent’ connectivity supporting real-time monitoring and route optimisation.

Further to this, the ‘eFleet’ software has been customised specifically for the Iona EVs. This can help to optimise fleets, reducing ROI periods and helping to track CO2 output in comparison to ICE equivalents.

According to Avevai, the Iona XS will be available in the EU from between €13,000 and €15,000, excluding local subsidies. Currently on sale in Greece, the models are expected to be offered in more European markets, including Romania, Malta and the UK. Plans are also being put together to launch the models in India and SE Asia.

Avevai also produces a series of other EVs, including the Iona S commercial van, the Alfie micro MPV and the AI10 and AI12 electric buses.
