Cat launches 995 wheeled loader
18 July 2023
Caterpillar has unveiled the new Cat 995 wheeled loader, superseding the 994K.
The US-based OEM says the loader boasts several improvements, including increased productivity, reduced fuel consumption, and enhanced operator comfort.
Compared to the previous model, the 995 is said to deliver up to 19% higher productivity, due primarily to a higher rated payload and a 6% increase in hydraulic force combined with equal hydraulic cycle time.
The loader also offers up to 13% lower hourly fuel consumption and an additional 8% efficiency gain when operating in Enhanced Eco Mode. In throttle lock mode, the 995 demonstrates up to 19% more efficiency than the 994K.
Improvements to the front linkage of the loader include an enhanced casting design, larger weld size, bigger bearings and pins, and profile changes that contribute to an increased service life.
Additionally, the 995 is equipped with larger capacity buckets, featuring an extended floor for rapid loading and high fill factors reaching 115%.
Caterpillar says despite being built to the same size as the 994K, the new 995 offers a higher rated payload. This improvement results in a substantial increase in production and efficiency.
The 995 is powered by a Cat 3516E engine, offering configurations based on regional requirements, meeting EU Stage V/US EPA Tier 4 Final or US EPA Tier 1 equivalent emissions.
Inside the cab
For operator comfort and visibility, the 995’s cab has been redesigned with 50% more legroom and a pressurised cab that reduces vibration feedback, lowers sound levels and features automatic temperature control.
The loader’s new electrohydraulic speed-sensing steering with force feedback automatically adjusts stiffness based on travel speed.
The cab of the 995 is designed for improved visibility, featuring a taller windshield that offers a 25% increase in glass surface area and a 64% increase in wiper sweep area, providing a better view of the bucket.
The loader is equipped with two 254-mm colour LED monitors that display machine control, operating functions, and the electronic operator’s manual. Additionally, a third 203-mm screen provides a dedicated view of the standard rearview camera and can be upgraded to a multiview camera system, offering 270-degree vision with rear object detection.
Access to the cab and all service areas can be made from ground level or a platform, improving job site safety. Wide stairs with full handrails positioned at a 45-degree angle improve access.
An optional powered access system allows for even easier ingress and egress to and from the rear platform, with controls in both the cab and ground level.
Advanced technology
The loader incorporates technology including a tip-up prevention system that ensures full breakout forces while preventing excessive lifting of the back tires. It also features optional Autodig components that automate challenging parts of the dig cycle.
For enhanced productivity and efficiency, the loader offers Payload Overload Prevention, allowing for the use of larger buckets without the risk of overload. The system can be configured to stop or slow the lift arms when the maximum allowed payload, including bucket weight, is exceeded.
The 995 comes with the standard Vital Information Management System (VIMS), enabling customers to access a wide range of sensor information and enhanced machine data. Cat Product Link provides remote access to machine operating data through the user-friendly VisionLink interface, facilitating asset management.
