Caterpillar adding gas generators from 20 to 200 kW

Caterpillar Inc. is introducing 15 new gas generator sets from 20 to 200 kW rated for emergency standby, demand response and prime operation and suited for use with a range of gasous fuels in small 60-Hz applications. Models will be available from Cat dealers in North America through a staged rollout into 2023.

The gen-sets are capable of running on pipeline natural gas, propane and renewable natural gas. Dual-fuel auto changeover technology allows users to connect both propane and natural gas sources to a single unit. The technology utilizes natural gas as the primary fuel and automatically switches to a backup propane tank when the supply of natural gas is insufficient, providing added resiliency that satisfies the requirement for on-site fuel.

The models can be factory equipped with a steel or aluminum enclosure for optimal sound attenuation, access for operation and maintenance, security and protection from the elements. The first in the series are the DG100 and DG125, both rated 208 to 600 V, 125 kW standby, at 60 Hz. They are powered by V8 6.2 L spark-ignited engines with a 378.3 cu. in. displacement and bore and stroke dimensions of 4” x 3.75” for the DG100 and 5.71” x 3.75” for the DG125. Other features include a self-regulated alternator for enhanced motor starting capability and GCCP1.2 control panel.

The gen-sets are compatible with NFPA 110 Level 1 Type 10 and are UL 2200 Listed. Because they are U.S. EPA-certified for emergency use, they are applicable for energy resiliency in small commercial businesses, industrial applications and critical infrastructure such as fresh water and wastewater treatment plants. They are also EPA certified for non-emergency applications, such as demand response and prime operation supporting microgrids, renewables and utility programs.

Hardware is pre-installed to enable access to available Cat Connect Remote Asset Monitoring, a subscription-based service that provides data visualization, reporting and alerts through a web interface or mobile app. Also offereted is the Cat Active Management Platform (AMP), a distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) platform that helps customers monitor, manage, and monetize these gaseous generator sets and other Cat power solutions.

The gen-sets come with a standard two-year warranty for emergency standby and demand response applications, with additional extended service coverage options available.
