Caterpillar and Trimble extend JV to accelerate Grade Control innovation

Premium Content

Caterpillar and Trimble have announced the extension of their long-standing joint venture with the agreement including expanded distribution of grade control solutions in construction to accelerate innovation and adoption.

The next phase of the joint venture between Caterpillar and Trimble will focus on innovation in grade control technology

The joint venture of Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT) has been in operation since 2002.

According to a press release, the renewed agreement will increase industry reach and provide customers broader availability of interoperable grade control solutions via a platform for use by Caterpillar, Trimble and other technology providers and equipment manufacturers.

Caterpillar says that, for its customers, they can access the technology in a number of ways: factory-fit grade options through Caterpillar; Cat Grade 3D Ready options that allow upgrading at any point within the machine lifecycle; expanded aftermarket and digital offerings directly through Cat dealers.

Trimble says that its customers will benefit from broader availability through an expanded distribution network to reach and meet the needs of mixed fleet customers and streamlined access to grade control through Trimble Construction.

“Trimble’s Connect & Scale strategy has created an ecosystem that empowers customers across both the physical and digital worlds,” said Rob Painter, president and CEO of Trimble. “The next phase of our joint venture will drive innovation in grade control technology to expand the industry opportunity with localised and differentiated solutions while improving technology interoperability,”

“With a focus on accelerating this leading-edge technology, we are committed to making it easier for customers to acquire and adopt our solutions across Cat and mixed fleets alike,” added Tony Fassino, Caterpillar Construction Industries group president.
