Caterpillar unveils three new compact machines at ConExpo

Displayed at the company’s West Hall booth (W40416), the new Cat TUL100 compact utility loader, Cat 253 compact track loader (CTL), and Cat 301 CR mini excavator all join the manufacturer’s compact equipment portfolio.

The Cat TUL100 marks Caterpillar’s first move into the stand-on compact utility loader market. Designed for confined worksites, it offers a rated operating capacity of 1,000 lb (454 kg) and is powered by a 24 hp (17.9 kW) Cat C1.1 turbo diesel engine.

The machine has an approximate operating weight of 3,600 lb (1.6 tonnes) and a maximum lift height of 7 ft (2.1 m). Contractors can choose between 36in (914mm) and 42in (1,067mm) track widths, enabling access through narrow site openings.

A range of attachments, including augers, trenchers, buckets, forks and power box rakes, will be available. The TUL100 also offers multiple coupler options and can be equipped with Cat VisionLink fleet management technology. North American availability is planned for early 2027.

New compact tracked loader (CTL)

Cat has also launched the new Cat 253 CTL, which sits between the 249D3 and 255 models, the new Cat 253 CTL builds on the 259D3 platform.

Similar in operational specs to the 259D3, the 253 introduces a redesigned undercarriage featuring rigid, frame-mounted axles and a next-generation one-piece undercarriage frame. Caterpillar said the configuration is intended to enhance traction, stability and grading performance.

The 253 has an operating weight of 8,893 lb (4 tonnes) and is powered by an electronically controlled Cat 3.3B turbo diesel engine meeting U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and Stage V emissions standards.

Standard specification includes 15in (380mm) C-Pattern tracks and a standard-flow hydraulic package delivering 20 gpm (75.7 lpm) at 3,336 psi (230 bar). A high-flow option, available in applicable regions, increases hydraulic output to 30 gpm (112 lpm).

The sealed and pressurised one-piece cab features adjustable joystick pods, dual self-levelling, return-to-dig and attachment positioner functions.

The 253 is scheduled for commercial launch in North America in the second half of 2026, with expansion to other regions in 2027.

Updated 1t micro excavator

Replacing the Cat 300.9D, the new Cat 301 CR micro mini excavator retains a compact radius design and offers a dig depth of 71.7in (1,820 mm). The retractable undercarriage reduces machine width to 29 in (730 mm), while a folding rollover protective structure (ROPS) allows the unit to access height-restricted areas.

The one-ton platform shares its engine base with other Cat compact machines to simplify servicing and parts availability. New features include seat-mounted pilot controls, two-speed travel, first and second auxiliary hydraulic options, an updated gauge cluster and improved stability.

Caterpillar is also introducing a manual coupler and new A13 auger for the platform, complementing the existing B1 hammer and a range of trenching and clean-up buckets.

The new machine is set to be commercially available in early 2027.
