China Yuchai forms JV to develop hydrogen fuel cells

China Yuchai International, an OEM manufacturer and distributor of engines for on- and off-road applications through its subsidiary, Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company (GYMCL), has entered into an agreement to develop hydrogen fuel cell powertrain systems for the national market.
Based in the Daxing district of Beijing, the project will be a joint venture between Yuchai Xin-Lan New Energy Power Technology Company and Beijing Xing Shun Da Bus Company.
The project will focus on development of components and complete fuel cells for use in on- and off-road applications.
Weng Ming Hoh, president of China Yuchai, commented: “This new hydrogen energy project with Beijing Xing Shun Da further demonstrates our commitment to providing new energy solutions at a time when energy demand is increasing and climate conditions call for more sustainable solutions.”
China Yuchai International, through its GYMCL subsidiary, produces a variety of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty engines for a variety of applications, including trucks and buses and construction, marine and agricultural machinery. GMYCL also produces diesel engines for generator sets.
In 2020, GMYCL reported that it sold 430,320 engines.
