Compressor Solutions For LNG Carriers’ Cargo Handling Systems
08 November 2017

Atlas Copco Gas and Process Division has gained a compressor order for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier market in Asia.
The customer, Samsung Heavy Industry in Korea, ordered four centrifugal gas compressors, four gas screw compressors, heaters and vaporizers, to be used on two small-scale LNG carrier vessels (LNGC) with a capacity of 75 000 m² each for Kogas, Korea’s public natural gas company.
Atlas Copco Gas and Process division explained that the compressors feature a compact design to suit the two smaller vessels, and are to be used in the ships’ cargo handling system.
Vapor return compressors will provide tank pressure control during loading and fuel-gas compressors will feed excess boil-off gas to the vessel’s gas engine.
Atlas Copco Gas and Process can supply full cargo handling solutions, including high-duty turbocompressors, low-duty gas screw compressors and heat exchangers.
The president of Atlas Copco Gas and Process Division, Robert Radimeczky, said “(With this order) we were pleased to leverage Atlas Copco’s proven experience in supplying full cargo handling systems on large LNGC vessels.” He added that the company’s experience in securing naval approvals for turbocompressors was another key factor in the order.
