COVID concerns cloud CIMAC congress

The large-engine event is held every three years

The CIMAC World Congress, an event for the large-engine industry held every three years, faces cancelation or postponement because of COVID concerns, organizers said.

A decision on whether to cancel the show, scheduled for June 13-17 in Busan, South Korea, will be made no later than Feb. 11.

“Due to the ongoing worldwide COVID 19 pandemic and the associated travel restrictions and possibly requirements for major events, we see the need to include a COVID 19 phase-out scenario in the planning of the 30th CIMAC World Congress,” organizers said. “We will closely monitor developments in the coming weeks and make the decision on holding the congress with safety in mind for all participants. Specifically, this means that we will make a decision as soon as possible but at the very latest on February 11, 2022 whether the Congress can take place as planned on June 13-17, 2022.”

The event will not be replaced with an online or hybrid event in June, but it could be postponed for six months to a year.

Criteria for a cancellation are:

  • The current COVID 19 numbers in Korea.
  • The travel possibilities and travel restrictions to Korea and/or in the home countries and the related quarantine conditions. The organizers will not host a congress if participants must plan several days of quarantine upon arrival or return to their home country.

“Be assured that we will take the decision about the organization to the 30th CIMAC World Congress with the highest diligence,” organizers wrote.
