SAIM has unveiled its new Hybrid Integrated Solutions (HIS) system at the EIMA International agricultural machine and power show in Bologna, Italy.

For the HIS-13D 11K-SAE system, SAIM, which is the importer and distributor of Kubota engines in Italy, has brought together a D-Series Kubota diesel engine with an electric motor and battery pack to create a hybrid power system for agricultural equipment.

The engine can deliver 18.5 kW at 3000 rpm, while the electric motor produces 12.8 kW at 2800 rpm. The system is capable of operating in diesel-only, electric-only and combined power output profiles. Combined power/torque is 31.3 kW at 2800 rpm and 133 Nm at 1600 rpm.

Using a 48 V system the solution does not require special machine certification.

A regenerative system can be fitted to the machine to deliver harvested current to the 10 kWh battery pack. Instead of the brakes, this could be on the axle or even on a loading arm. This is a large battery pack, but capable of supporting two full machine shifts without the need for a mains recharge.

The system communicates using the CAN J1939 and CANopen protocols, finding the best for the operating point.

Final systems are delivered with a customised control panel, controller for the 48 V system an related wiring.
