Electrification “remains Sany’s core growth engine”, according to the Chinese construction equipment manufacturer.

The company underlined its commitment to electrification and low-carbon equipment as it released its 2025 Sustainability Report, describing decarbonisation as one of the company’s three core long-term growth strategies alongside globalisation and digitalisation.

Sany said it is continuing to push ahead with the electrification of machinery including excavators, loaders, cranes, mixers and construction vehicles.

The company generated revenue new energy products of RMB 8.64 billion (US$1.2 billion) in 2025. Based on Sany’s reported main business revenue, that equates to roughly 9.6% of total annual revenue.

Sany said annual sales of major electrified products including electric excavators, mixers, pump trucks and cranes totalled 13,992 units in 2025.

It is also working on hydrogen energy technology, “with a focus on R&D for hydrogen-powered vehicles”.

The company spent CNY 5.17 billion (US$710 million) on research and development (R&D) during the year, which accounted for 5.8% of main business revenue.

In the report, chairman Xiang Wenbo said, “While promoting industrial upgrading, we have consistently regarded green development as an important component of our long-term corporate strategy. The Company continues promoting a development model of ‘product electrification upgrades + green industrial chain coordination’, with sales of major products such as electric excavators and mixers continuing to lead the market.

The report also highlighted several new energy technology programmes underway at the company.

Among them was a new hybrid pump truck platform that Sany said reduced energy consumption costs by 54%, while offering a 66% increase in driving range and a 53% improvement in pumping capability.

Lighthouse factory push

Alongside electrification, Sany used the report to showcase advances in intelligent manufacturing and factory automation.

The company said it was developing a new generation of “lighthouse factories” using self-developed industrial software and AI-enabled production systems.

At its Changsha No. 18 Factory, Sany said industrial AI models were being used for production scheduling, quality inspection and equipment maintenance.

Meanwhile, at its Kunshan excavator factory, Sany said full 5G coverage across all production processes had reduced production data latency to 20 milliseconds. Through a modular production line design, the factory supports mixed-line manufacturing of six major series and 42 excavator models and has cut product changeover times from four hours to 15 minutes.

It also claims to have reached defect detection rates of 99.5% during quality inspections, thanks to a vision-based inspection system.

The company said its industrial internet of things (IoT) platform now covered 46 factories across 23 industrial parks, connecting 18,000 pieces of equipment and 33,000 energy meters.

Global expansion continues

Sany also reiterated its intention to continue expanding internationally, with the company describing globalisation as its “primary development strategy”.

The manufacturer said it was continuing to expand overseas manufacturing capacity, including factories in Indonesia, South Africa and Turkey, while increasing localisation of operations and supply chains.

By the end of 2025, Sany products were being sold in more than 150 countries and regions worldwide.

Its most recent set of financial results revealed that overseas markets now form the “core” of its business, with international revenue accounting for 64% (US$7.8 billion) of total sales in 2025.
