Enviro400EV buses for Dundee, Scotland
10 December 2021
Alexander Dennis (ADL), subsidiary of the NFI Group, has reported that the ADL and BYD UK electric vehicle partnership has supplied 12 electric double deck buses to Xplore Dundee.
The new vehicles will deliver cleaner, quieter, more sustainable mobility on a route which includes ‘one of Scotland’s most polluted streets’.
The ADL and BYD UK EV partnership brings together a leading independent bus manufacturer with a global leader in batteries, energy management and electric mobility.
Built in Scotland at the ADL factory in Falkirk, the 12 Enviro400EV buses are the first in the Dundee fleet. Dundee Council currently operates a fleet of more than 150 other EV types.
The buses use lithium iron phosphate batteries with 339 or 382 kWh (dependent on specification). This delivers up to 160 miles of range, said to be sufficient for a full day of service. The buses are powered by two motors (one on each axle), each delivering up to 150 kW.
Charging can be completed by either a two 40 kW AC plugs or a 112 kW DC charger and roof-mounted charging rails.
Upon completion of driver training in early 2022, the buses will run on Route 28. This serves the Lochee Road, currently the street with the fourth-worst levels of air pollution in Scotland.
“This is a milestone moment for us at Xplore Dundee. We are so proud to bring these electric double deckers to Dundee, the first of their kind for the city,” said Christine McGlasson, MD, Xplore Dundee.
