Equipmake, H55 extend electric motor partnership deal
26 June 2023
Equipmake, a UK-based engineering company which specialises in development and production of electrification products used across the automotive, aerospace, mining, marine, off-highway machine and bus and coach industries, has agreed to a production technology partnership with H55.
H55, a Swiss company working in the aerospace propulsion sector, is already collaborating with Equipmake, where the latter has supplied electric motors for use in H55’s electric propulsion system (EPS). With certification planned for the end of 2024, the motors will be used in electric-powered aircraft.
Equipmake was selected primarily for the features offered by its electric motors, including a proprietary rotor design that uses Halbach technology to deliver a series of advantages. The company will support H55 in working with aircraft manufacturer BRM Aero. The company is currently developing the Bristell B23 Energic, a two-seat electric trainer aircraft.
Ian Foley, CEO of Equipmake, said: “I am delighted to build on our initial agreement with H55, announcing an agreement to partner for production on our lightweight, power dense electric motors, developing certified electric propulsion systems for the BRM Aero project. This will result in a highly-advanced electric two-seater training aircraft.”
Andre Borschberg, executive chairman of H55, added: “I am pleased to see our collaboration taking this important step, as we have many customers looking forward to using this technology.”
H55 was the company which developed the electric propulsion system used in the Solar Impulse aircraft, the first solar-powered airplane to fly around the world.
