New Fortress Energy Inc. (NFE), a U.S.-based global energy infrastructure company, has awarded to Fluor Corp. a full notice-to-proceed (FNTP) contract for NFE’s Fast LNG 2 project, a nominal 1.4 million tonne per annum LNG gas treating and liquefaction plant that will be placed on fixed offshore platforms. Fluor has been contracted for the engineering, procurement and fabrication management of the facility.

According to NFE, the Fast LNG liquefaction design “pairs the latest advancements in modular, midsize liquefaction technology with jack-up rigs or similar offshore infrastructure to enable a much lower cost and faster deployment schedule than floating liquefaction vessels and onshore liquefaction terminals.” The modular plants can be installed by others and dispatched to various locations around the world, providing NFE the opportunity to access multiple gas supply sources.

The latest project is the second offshore modular mid-scale LNG plant that NFE has awarded to Fluor this year. The first, awarded in Q1 2022, was the NFE Fast LNG 1 project, a similar design being installed on repurposed drilling jack-up rigs in federal waters approximately 16 miles off the southeast coast of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico.

“Fluor, in conjunction with key licensors and suppliers, provides NFE with an integrated modular mid-scale LNG export solution for these projects,” said Jim Breuer, Fluor’s Energy Solutions group president. “The Fluor design and execution plan facilitates repeatable project models that can be used to replicate similar plants in the future.”

Fluor will book the undisclosed reimbursable contract value in the second quarter 2022.
