Hexagon Purus, a Norwegian producer of zero-emissions mobility tech, has been selected to supply its hydrogen fuel cylinders to New Flyer for a fifth year. The deal is reported to be valued at approcximately $6.3 million.

New Flyer is part of the NFI Industries transportation solutions group which operates businesses and divisions covering such areas as public transport, port drayage and global logistics.

Hexagon Purus will continue to deliver its Type 4 hydrogen storage cylinders for the New Flyer Xcelsior Charge FC, a zero-emission fuel cell-powered transit bus.

Since 2020, the company has delivered tanks for more than 200 New Flyer fuel cell buses.

Type 4 hydrogen tanks are different from Type 3 in that the former uses a plastic liner within a carbon fibre exterior; the latter uses an aluminium inner wrapped in carbon fibre.

Fitted with a fuel cell supplied by Ballard Power Systems, a fully-fuelled Xcelsior Charge FC has a maximum range of approximately 370 miles/600 km.

Production of the Type-4 cylinders will be completed at the Hexagon Purus facility in Westminster, Maryland. Finished cylinders will be delivered over 2025.
