Iveco Delivers First Hybrid Urbanway Buses

30 May 2019

Iveco Bus delivered the first 15 hybrid-drive Urbanway buses to the Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company (STIB-MIV) in Belgium.

The delivery is part of an agreement the two companies signed in September 2018, that includes the supply of 141 vehicles within 2020.

The hybrid Urbanway buses can transport up to 130 passengers. The low-floor design allows access to any passenger category, while on board dedicated areas are available for wheelchairs and strollers.

The powertrain is composed by a 210-kW Tector 7 diesel engine, produced by FPT Industrial and complaint with Euro 6 emissions standards, and an electric drive with last generation batteries.

The battery management system allows to recuperate the brake energy to recharge the batteries and the function Arrive & Go switches the operation into pure electric while approaching and leaving bus stops and traffic lights.

The hybrid Urbanway emits 30% less CO2 and up to 40% less NOX compared to the diesel variant. The diesel engine can also be powered with second-generation hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) biodiesel, in which case CO2 emissions drop to 90% compared to conventional diesel.
