JCB Launches New Diesel Engine

01 February 2017

JCB has unveiled a new 3 L diesel engine aimed at mid-range construction equipment and other applications. Calling the 430 Dieselmax “the most exciting development in the history of the JCB engine business,” the inline four-cylinder engine represents five years of development work and a $39.2 million investment, of which $5.7 million came from the UK government. The engine is rated 74 hp (55 kW), with a maximum torque of 295 lb. ft. JCB said it meets EU Stage 3b and EPA Tier 4 final emissions regulations without a diesel particulate filter (DPF), diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) or a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. JCB group director of engines Alan Tolley said the JCB 430 Dieselmax engine uses 8% less fuel than the company’s 4.4 L engine, yet delivers the same performance. The engine will be built at JCB’s engine plant at Derbyshire, England. More information will be available in an upcoming issue of Diesel Progress.
