US launch for Kobelco SK650DLC-11 High Reach Excavator

The purpose-built demolition machine joins the company’s growing lineup, which includes the SK300 and SK350 Straight Boom models, along with the SK350D and SK1300D High Reach demolition excavators.

Powered by a 463-hp Isuzu Tier 4 Final engine, the SK650DLC-11 combines multiple boom and arm configurations with a hydraulic variable undercarriage, a demolition-specific tilting cab and an attachment connection system designed to simplify setup and transport.

In its maximum high-reach configuration, it provides up to 92 ft 7 in (28.2 m) of pin height with an 8,160-lb (3.7 t) tool. For applications requiring increased tool capacity, Separate Boom configurations can accommodate tools weighing up to 13,450 lb (6.1 t).

The SK650DLC-11 has an operating weight of approximately 178,100 lb (80.8 t). With the counterweight removed, the base machine weighs approximately 109,000 lb (49.4 t), reducing its weight for transportation between jobsites.

Dan Collins, KCMU director of product development, said, “By combining multiple front configurations with a shared main boom, a variable undercarriage and features designed to simplify assembly and transportation, contractors can configure the machine around the demands of the job rather than compromise between reach, tool capacity and mobility.”

At the heart of the SK650DLC-11 is a multi-configuration attachment system, which allows a separate digging boom and three-piece high-reach attachment to be used on the same base machine. An insert boom can be added to either configuration, providing four possible front arrangements for different demolition applications.

The Separate Boom design uses a two-piece structure with an additional articulation point, intended to provide greater flexibility for overhead, close-range and below-ground-level demolition work.

The machine also features a hydraulic variable undercarriage, which retracts to approximately 10 ft 6 in (3.2 m) for transport and extends to 13 ft 9 in (4.2 m) for greater stability during demolition work. The adjustment can be carried out from the cab without reconnecting hydraulic hoses or installing bolts.

Demolition-specific cab features include P5A glazing, Level II protection, a falling-object deflector, cab interference prevention and a stability warning system.

For attachment changes, hydraulic connections between the main boom and front attachments use a tool-free bayonet-style system, while the high-reach attachment incorporates a cross-cylinder arrangement to reduce its transport height.

Attachment stands can also be used as work platforms during installation and removal, while an optional hydraulically removable counterweight is designed to allow the process to be carried out by one person.
