KORAIL locomotives powered by Rolls-Royce mtu engines - again

Rolls-Royce is to supply 33 mtu Series 4000R engines to the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), the state-owned operator of South Korea’s rail network.
The engines will be fitted to new freight locomotives produced by rail vehicle manufacturer Romansys.
The new locos will replace the existing fleet of diesel models, helping to modernize South Korea’s freight transport. These older versions use the mtu Series 183 and 396 engines.
The new additions will will primarily operate on the line between Seoul (northern Korea) and the southern port city of Busan.
Andreas Görtz, president of the Mobile & Sustainable business unit at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, said: “We are delighted to once again be able to support KORAIL and Romansys with our mtu engines.
“These engines meet modern emission standards while offering the power and reliability required for today’s freight transport needs, with maximum operational efficiency.”
Technical support and service will be provided by MEST, the South Korean distributor for mtu products. It was reported that 30 of the engines ordered have already been delivered.
