Kubota acquires land for new Indian factory

Kubota and its Indian subsidiary Escorts Kubota Ltd (EKL) have acquired a site in Uttar Pradesh to construct a manufacturing plant for agricultural tractors and construction equipment. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in August.

The new plant, to be built on a 623,000m2 plot close to New Delhi on land managed by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, will expand production capacity for tractors, cranes and other products for the Indian market.

Kubota said EKL will continue production at its plant in Haryana, with the new site acquired “in anticipation of future production capacity shortages due to medium- to long-term growth in tractor demand in India and expanding exports”.

It said EKL would also need additional capacity for its pick and carry cranes, backhoe loaders, and other construction machinery.

‘World’s largest tractor market’

The Japanese manufacturer, which acquired EKL in 2022, said India was the world’s largest tractor market, with domestic sales exceeding 1 million units, with demand “expected to continue growing over the medium to long term.”

In a separate move, EKL has used the Bauma ConExpo India exhibition this week to show a new backhoe loader, the BLX75K.

Due for official launch in January 2027, the 7.7 tonne model combines EKL’s background in developing backhoes for the Indian market with technology from its parent company. Kubota said the machine will have “improved functionality and quality over previous models.”

Development work on the new model was led by EKL. The BLX75K is powered by a 74.2hp Kubota engine, has a loader bucket capacity of 1.1m³ and backhoe bucket capacity of 0.26m3.
