LiuGong breaks ground on $317m electric equipment plant in Indonesia

The Indonesia Green & Smart Industrial Park will be located in the Karawang industrial aea, West Java.

Scheduled to start operations in 2027, the plant will initially be capable of producing up to 5,000 electric excavators and electric wheeled loaders per year following the first phase of construction.

The machines will be produced for both the domestic and international markets. It positions Indonesia as LiuGong’s production hub for the Asia-Pacific region, with products “gradually expanding” to Europe and North America, according to the company.

LiuGong also plans to introduce advanced manufacturing technology to the plant, including automatic guided vehicles (AGVs), rail-guided vehicles (RGVs), and automated manufacturing execution systems.

The manufacturer’s Indonesia business first signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the plant in October 2025.

The latest move expands LiuGong’s global production base. The OEM already operates production facilities in India and Argentina, in addition to its home market of China.

Vice chairman and president of LiuGong Machinery Luo Guobing added, “The Indonesia Green & Smart Industrial Park is more than a manufacturing plant. It is a green and smart industrial platform integrating manufacturing, R&D, talent development and industrial collaboration. LiuGong will establish an Indonesia Product Application R&D Center and partner with Universitas Gadjah Mada to promote technology transfer and cultivate local talent, injecting new momentum into the sustainable development of Indonesia’s construction equipment industry.”

More than 300 guests, including representatives from Indonesian central and local government agencies, LiuGong partners, customers and media attended the ceremony.
