Mahindra Enters Global Combine Business

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., part of the $16.9 billion Mahindra Group based in Mumbai, India, has entered the global combine harvester business through a strategic partnership with Sampo Rosenlew, a combine manufacturer based in Pori, Finland. The two companies will reportedly work in tandem to grow their combine business globally, including India.

Under the transaction, expected to close by June 30, Mahindra will acquire a 35% equity stake in Sampo Rosenlew. Other terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Sampo Rosenlew is a family-owned company known for its mid-sized combines. Its main products are combines and forestry equipment; combines account for 70% of net sales. It currently sells machines to over 50 countries and exports approximately 90% of its products. The company’s largest export regions have been Ukraine, Belarus and North Africa. The company is also a joint venture partner in Algeria with combine manufacturer CMA Sampo S.p.A.

In addition to its existing strategy, Sampo Rosenlew is expected to develop a new range of combine harvesters for developing markets as well as specialty crops. Mahindra said the two companies will jointly focus their business in Asia, Africa and Eurasian countries.
