Makinex enters agricultural market

Makinex announced it will begin marketing its portable power generators to the agricultural industry in North America.

“We are excited to expand into the ag sector, a move driven by the increasing demand for reliable and portable power solutions within this important industry in North America,” said Brad Boehler, president, Makinex USA. “We’ve observed a surge in inquiries from agricultural-related businesses highlighting a critical need for dependable power sources in various farming operations including drones, irrigation, spraying and more.”

The company’s portable generators range from 9 to 23 kW, with 240V and 480V options. They feature a simplified design with just three components – the engine, alternator and electrical panel – as well as dual-phase output, providing both single- and three-phase power from one unit.

The generators’ advanced permanent magnet alternator technology delivers up to 15% more power from the same engine compared to traditional generators, Makinex asserted. Honda GX series or Vanguard gasoline engines offer fuel-efficient operation, consuming approximately 0.92 gph at 50% load, allowing for a run time of up to 10 hours on a single tank.

The generators are open-frame, industrial-grade builds. The noise levels are approximately 72 dB at no load and peaking around 78 dB at full load. Emission controls are integrated to ensure compliance with industry and environmental regulations.

All models are built in a compact, portable frame and mounted on wheels to allow for ease of transport and positioning closer to the work area.

Dakota Crow, owner of Monarch Drone Solutions of Springfield, Mo., uses a 23-kW, 240V Makinex generator to power DJI drones for his aerial spraying and seeding operations.

“Drones are reshaping farming practices by helping to reduce costs, increase yields and adopt sustainable practices, but they take power to operate. We have huge power needs, and we have little ability to have any kind of downtime,” Crow said. “Having a quality generator that is reliable is crucial.”

He described the Makinex generators as “next level.”

“They are industrial-grade providers of reliable, consistent power while offering fuel efficiency. These generators can be used for a lot of other things, too, especially around the farm, like welders, pumps, lighting, seeders, etc.”

Boehler said he believes Makinex technology will play a key role in supporting the growth and resilience of the ag sector, adding “as drone use rapidly expands in farming for tasks like crop monitoring and spraying, the need for fast, reliable charging in remote locations has never been greater.”
