Mercedes-Benz delivers first series production eActros
28 February 2022
The first series production Mercedes-Benz eActros truck has been delivered to logistics provider DB Schenker.
Assembled at the plant in Worth Am Rhein, the eActros 300 will be used to transport palletised shipments in the Leipzig region of Germany.
The battery-electric, two-axle truck was specifically configured for this use, with an aerodynamic box body produced by Spier. The truck has a maximum gross vehicle weight of 19 tonnes.
Karin Rådström, member of the Board of Management Daimler Truck Holding AG, responsible for the Europe and Latin America regions and the Mercedes-Benz Truck brand, said: “We are very pleased that DB Schenker, as one of the leading companies in the logistics industry, has chosen the Mercedes-Benz eActros. We worked closely with DB Schenker during the development of the eActros. The feedback from the practical trials were used to develop the series vehicle as well as related services. The eActros is a truck you can trust - and the right vehicle for a new, sustainable era.”
The logistics company was involved with development of the eActros, running a prototype as part of the ‘eActros innovation fleet’.
DB Schenker already operates more than 40 Fuso eCanter battery-electric vehicles in 11 European countries, including Germany, France, Finland, Italy and Spain.
The eActros can use either three (300) or four (400) battery packs. Each pack has a usable capacity of about 97 kWh. Fitted with four packs, the eActros has a range of up to 400 km. Charging up to 160 kW is available. Using a DC fast-charging station with 400 A, three battery packs can be charged from 20 to 80% capacity in about an hour.
The drivetrain uses a rigid electric axle with two integrated electric motors and a two-speed transmission. The liquid-cooled motors deliver a continuous output of 330 kW, with peak output of 400 kW. The truck further features a regenerative braking feature to harvest energy stored in the battery packs.
The Spier Athlete dry freight box body uses an aeroform design, with edging profiles, profile caps and an integrated roof spoiler to reduce drag.
