US-based Microvast Holdings is to supply lithium-ion battery packs to electric vehicle platform developer REE Automotive for production of chassis decks intended for commercial vehicles.

The German arm of Microvast will supply the MV-C Gen 4 HpCO high-energy li-ion battery packs. The batteries are said to offer high energy density, high power performance, long cycle life and fast charging capabilities – with a suitable charging point, a full recharge is said to take 30 minutes.

The battery packs also include proprietary safety characteristics to further support delivery of the EV platforms.

Microvast’s MV-C Gen 4 battery pack is a great fit for REE,” explained Sascha Kelterborn, chief revenue officer at Microvast Holdings. “It’s specifically designed to address the requirements of commercial vehicle fleets.”

REE will use the packs in its REEcorner tech, which further incorporates vehicle drive components such as steering, braking, suspension, powertrain and control systems in a module which links the chassis and wheels. It is said to be the flattest EV platform, which supports easier loading/unloading.

The finished platform is known as the REE P7. It is suitable for production of commercial trucks, school buses, walk-in vans and delivery box trucks. The scalable and modular architecture allows production of any Class 1-6 vehicle type.
