mtu hosted Virtual Marine Summit
21 May 2021
The first mtu Virtual Marine Summit has taken place from 18 to 20 May, 2021.
The three days have been filled with interesting conversations about the marine market and especially commercial marine.
Denise Kurtulus, Vice President Global Marine at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, hosted the virtual event. The various sessions included experts from Svitzer A/S, Damen Shipyard, Schottel, Fairplay Towage Group, Sea Machines Robotics Inc, FRS Helgoline GmbH&Co., M.A.C. System Solutions, KG, Rederij Doeksen, the Water Emergency Transportation Authority of San Francisco (WETA), Foss Maritime Company, and Duisburger Hafen AG.
A couple of takes from the event: Kurtulus explained that Rolls-Royce Power Systems’ strategy for commercial marine includes shifting from being merely a supplier of prime movers, to becoming a system integrator and finally a provider of lifetime services. She said that the transition is on the way although it is still too early to see a clear shifting.
And Daniel Chatterjee, director Technology Strategy & Regulatory Affairs at MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH, gave some thoughts about the development of trends such as electrification, hybridazation and digitalization, including Power-to-X solutions being able to deliver e-fuels like e-diesel, e-LNG, e-methanol and e-hydrogen.
The online platform of the event will remain online until end of June, so there is still a chance to listen to the presentations and network with the attendes. Follow the link HERE.
