Nel Hydrogen US has received a contract for delivery of a containerised polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyzer to be integrated with its 700 bar H2Station hydrogen fuelling equipment package.

While the order was valued at $5 million no customer details were given, other than to say it was for a power generating site in the US.

Nel said that the project will demonstrate several use cases for green hydrogen, including cooling of the turbine generators and direct injection of hydrogen into the natural gas fuel stream. The hydrogen will also be used to fuel a fleet of light-duty fuel cell vehicles operated by the utility company.

Power for the electrolyzer will come from various sources, including an on-site photovoltaic array. This should support the use of carbon-free hydrogen in the three use cases.

The equipment is expected to be delivered in late 2022 and early 2023.
