Ox BEV displayed at COP26 climate conference

Ox truck The Ox truck is designed for emerging markets

The BEV Ox truck has been put on display on the UK Presidency stand at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland.

Designed by Gordon Murray, who also designed the McLaren F1, the Ox truck has been developed specifically for ‘non-consumption’ emerging markets. The intention is that the truck should support people in those regions as they go about their daily lives, where goods transport, medicine, education and other necessities can be difficult to access.

For ease of transport, the trucks are shipped disassembled – or in a ‘flat pack’. Once built, they are offered on a pay-as-you-go basis, allowing people to transport themselves or their goods where they need to be without the financial burden of having to own a vehicle.

The two underfloor battery packs for the Ox truck were developed by Italian on- and off-highway vehicle manufacturer FPT Industrial and its UK-based subsidiary Potenza Technology. The batteries can deliver a 200 km range with the vehicle fully loaded.

The battery packs can be recharged using current delivered from solar panels.

Based in Coventry, Potenza Technology was established 20 years ago to carry out research, development and design for electric vehicles.

In addition to providing affordable and reliable transportation, the Ox truck supports the Sustainable Development Goal which focuses on reducing pollution and CO2 emissions.
