Peterbilt Motors Co. has announced delivery of two Model 579 electric vehicles (EVs) to Quantix, a leading supply chain services company to the chemical industry, for use in drayage operations in its Charleston, S.C., and Savannah, Ga., facilities. Quantix becomes one of the first companies in the U.S. to receive the 579EVs.

The Quantix network includes more than 50 terminals and warehousing and packaging facilities across the country, with a fleet that encompasses over 3000 trucks and trailers.

“Quantix has very aggressive sustainability goals, and we intend to have 25% of our last-mile and drayage fleet powered by alternative fuels by 2030,” said Chris Ball, Quantix CEO and president. “The Peterbilt Model 579EVs represent another step as Quantix moves to a greener, safer and smarter future.”

“Between investment in infrastructure, training and maintenance in partnership with Peterbilt, we have the proper support to incorporate these trucks most efficiently and effectively into our fleet,” added Troy Basso, Quantix vice president of Fleet Maintenance.

Designed for optimal weight distribution and performance, the fully integrated, all-electric 579EV has a range of up to 150 miles and is available in a tandem drive configuration, with Meritor 14Xe e-axle motors providing power through the drive inverters. Regenerative braking captures energy from stop-and-go operations to help recharge the Romeo Power thermally controlled lithium iron phosphate battery packs.

When used in conjunction with a recommended DC fast charger, the high energy density battery packs recharge in three to four hours, making the 579EV suitable for regional haul, drayage, pickup and delivery and last-mile operations. Available PACCAR Parts EV charging stations can maximize coverage over a full range of Peterbilt EVs, with output power from 20 kW to 350 kW.

“Peterbilt and our dealer network are committed to helping customers seamlessly integrate electric vehicles into their fleet to deliver a low total cost of ownership and superior, zero-emissions performance,” said Jason Skoog, Peterbilt general manager and PACCAR vice president.
