Sany reveals 250 tonne electric hybrid AT crane

Chinese construction equipment manufacturer Sany unveiled in Europe a 250 tonne capacity all terrain crane with full plug-in hybrid power.

Designated SAC2500E7PHEV, the new model is claimed to be the first plug-in hybrid mobile crane in its class. It has electric drives both for crane operations in the upper works and for the carrier. Operation on site and travel between jobs can be done purely powered by electricity.

Its travel range on electricity is given as 45 to 55 km. For longer distance it also has a Mercedes-Benz diesel engine.

Building on it

The new crane is based on Sany’s existing 250 tonne capacity all terrain crane model with 75 metre main boom. Adding the electric drive system gives 200 kW of power (peak) for the carrier and 250 kW for the crane functions.

In addition to the onboard 141 kW-h traction battery, while stationary and set up on site, power for the crane can be supplied from a standard 16 Amp mains connection cable. It means quieter operation free from engine exhaust emissions and less engine wear.

Charging from the AC mains is up to 40 kW and DC fast charging is available at up to 130 kW using the CCS2 standard.

Sany said it is planning another plug-in hybrid all terrain crane, in the 70 tonne capacity class, to join the range soon.
