Schottel to show new PropControl 4 at SMM trade fair

Schottel is a leading manufacturer of steerable marine propulsion systems. At the upcoming Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine Technology (SMM) trade fair in Hamburg, Germany (September 1-4), the company is set to feature new examples from its power portfolio.

These will include the unveiling of the new PropControl4 propulsion system. Designed for azimuth thrusters, transverse thrusters and CPP shaftlines, this provides operators with advanced levels of vessel control.

The modular architecture makes the PropControl 4 suitable for any propulsion configuration, while enhanced ergonomics, haptic feedback and a push-to-talk interface help with ease of use.

The units comply with the IACS UR E27 and IEC 62443-3 cybersecurity standards, which includes a redundant FFU backup control system in the event of a failure. Monitoring and connectivity functions support future-ready operation across the lifetime of the vessel.

Also on the stand, Schottel will have scale models of the RudderPropeller (SRP), Controllable Pitch Propeller (SCP), the PumpJet (SPJ) and EcoPeller (SRE). The SRE was recently installed on a naval rescue vessel and also as a retrofit on a Norwegian ferry.

Lastly, Elkon, a partner of Schottel, will present its new solutions for onboard electrical systems, covering generation, distribution, storage and management systems. With both pure electric and hybrid solutions, these features can help to improve overall energy efficiency.
