XCMG unveils ultra-large BE mining machines
16 February 2026
In late 2024, China’s XCMG reported signing contracts with a value in excess of 10 billion yuan ($1.38 billion) at the Bauma China trade show.
The largest individual deal was the 3 billion yuan ($413 million) deal to deliver more than 100 zero-emissions heavy mobile machines to Australian mining giant Fortescue.
The deal included development of electric wheel loaders, dozers and graders.

In February 2026, XCMG welcomed Agustin Pichot, co-CEO of Fortescue, for the joint unveiling of the what is reported to be the world’s largest fully-electric machine prototypes.
The XC9260BEWL all-electric wheel loader and XC9260BEWD wheel dozer are the first ultra-large machines to follow the 2024 deal. They are intended to support about 100 70-to-130 ton electric mining trucks that will help Fortescue achieve its goal of making the Pilbara mine a zero-carbon operation by 2030.
Mr. Lu Chuan, President of XCMG Machinery, said: “The rollout of these custom-built prototypes marks a new milestone in our collaboration. XCMG will leverage the full R&D–production–supply–sales–service–finance value chain to ensure the successful implementation of Fortescue projects and contribute to global green mining development.”
Machine specifications were not available, but XCMG has already produces a large battery-electric wheel loader. Unveiled in 2025, this had a 1,002 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack that used DC recharging.
XCMG is set to supply more than 100 zero-emission heavy mobile machines to Fortescue’s Pilbara mining operations.
Following initial testing, the machines will be shipped to Australia for further on-site trials and optimization.
