Polish naval frigates to use Schottel thrusters
14 January 2025

Schottel is to supply Polish MIECNIK-Class multi-role frigates with its transverse thrusters.
The shock-enhanced STT 4 thruster units will be applied to the naval ships now under construction at PGZ Stocznia, Poland.
Fitted with a propeller measuring 2,000 cm in diameter, each unit has a maximum electrical power input of 925 kW. Delivered hardware will further include a soft starter, meaning that the complete system will be delivered from a single supplier.

Each STT will feature the LeaCon seal monitoring system. This offers reliable protection against seawater contamination. Separate seals for seawater going in and gear oil going out of the system allow the fluids to be collected in an intermediate chamber.
LeaCon can also monitor the condition of the seals, determining operational wear so it can be addressed during scheduled maintenance.
Schottel reports that the thrusters will give the naval frigates improved manoeuvrability.
