Recycling firm tests Sennebogen’s battery-powered excavator

Recycling company Cronimet Alfa GmbH has tested Sennebogen’s new 824 G Electro Battery excavator during an extensive trial at its site in Munich’s Aubing district.

Operator Zoran Alexsic tested the fully electric machine indoors while feeding a baling press and sorting materials. According to Alexsic one of the biggest advantages was the quiet operation. “It’s pleasantly quiet. You don’t have to take breaks to escape the noise,” he explained.

The excavator is equipped with an integrated working area limitation system, which prevents the boom from colliding with the hall ceiling in confined spaces. “That provides more space to work and a good feeling when driving,” Alexsic added.

Running on a single lithium-ion battery pack, the 824 G Electro Battery demonstrated operating times of between 1.5 and 3.5 hours depending on driving style and engine speed. “That’s really strong for just one battery,” said Alexsic. The machine can also be fitted with up to four batteries to extend run time further.

Powered by a 90 kW electric motor, the excavator matched the performance of conventional diesel models. “The battery-powered machine drives just like a diesel-powered one,” Alexsic said. “You don’t notice any difference in power – only that everything runs much more smoothly and quietly.”

A key feature is the dual power mode, which allows the machine to operate from the mains while simultaneously recharging its battery. “Charging during operation is really practical. You can simply carry on working without losing any time,” Alexsic noted.

The cab is fitted with Sennebogen’s SENCON control system, enabling precise adjustment of air conditioning, speed and joystick settings. “The controls are very user-friendly and make working pleasant,” Alexsic said.

The electric model also offers economic benefits by reducing fuel costs and maintenance requirements. “Refuelling is completely eliminated. That’s a real advantage, especially in a hall,” Alexsic said.

Cronimet Alfa concluded that the Sennebogen 824 G Electro Battery combined performance, endurance and ease of operation, making it a practical solution for recycling businesses aiming to cut emissions and noise.
