Wabtec to acquire Inspection Technologies

Freight and mass transit rail tech specialist Wabtec is to acquire the Inspection Technologies division of Evident, which delivers measurement solutions for railway infrastructure and rolling stock.

According to Wabtec, the purchase should help to enhance reliability and safety for customers.

“The addition of Inspection Technologies aligns with our growth strategy to accelerate the innovation of scalable technologies, increase our installed base, expand high margin recurring revenues and continuously drive operational performance,” said Rafael Santana, president and CEO of Wabtec.

The product portfolio at Inspection Technologies will help to expand Wabtec’s capabilities. Key elements include advanced automated inspection capabilities will deliver added depth of engineering which will result in ‘superior’ solutions for customers.

More specifically, products developed by Inspection Technologies can inspect assets and infrastructure with non-destructive testing and remote visual inspection, covering both maintenance and manufacturing.

“The combination of our two skilled teams and complementary portfolios will accelerate the development of first-class, intelligent monitoring solutions to meet the changing needs of the industries we serve,” said Karen Smith, executive vice president of Evident Inspection Technologies.

Inspection Technologies has its headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts, while Wabtec is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The deal is reported to be valued at $1.78 billion.
