Ansaldo Energia Supplying Turbines For Serbian Power Plant

Ansaldo Energia has been awarded a contract by Shanghai Electric Group, worth approximately €40 million, to supply gas turbines and generators for Pancevo combined cycle power plant in Serbia.

The 200 MW Pancevo combined cycle power plant is owned by TE-TO Pancevo, and Shanghai Electric Group will be responsible for Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) on a turnkey basis. TE-TO Pancevo is a joint venture between Centroenergoholding, owned by Gazprom Energholding, and Serbian oil company NIS.

The Pancevo cogeneration plant will produce power in the form of electricity and heat using natural gas as fuel. Under the contract with Shanghai Electric Group, Ansaldo Energia will supply two AE64.3A gas turbines, their WY18Z air-cooled generators and the relevant auxiliary systems.

The AE64.3A is a quick start gas turbine that reaches baseload condition in less than 20 minutes by a fast load ramp, making it suitable for rapid grid support and peak plants as well, the company said. Ansaldo Energia said the AE64.3A was the first annular gas turbine in the world to be operated in fuel gas premix mode across the entire load range, simplifying the management of load rejection and transient modes in general. Addressing a growing need for fuel flexibility, the AE64.3A can be fired with different fuels, including natural gas with lower LHV and liquid fuel (oils).

Alsaldo Energia said the Pancevo contract strengthens its long-term strategic partnership with Shanghai Electric Group.
