Tom’s Truck Center adds Class 8 Nikola Tre BEVs
08 May 2023
The Class 8 Nikola Tre battery-electric vehicle (BEV) has joined the electric commercial truck lineup at Tom’s Truck Center, based in southern California, and the Nikola Tre hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) is expected to be available by the end of the year.
According to KC Heidler, president and CEO of Tom’s Truck Center, the dealer has already sold 14 Nikola BEVs, which are expected to take delivery in May, and is on track for more demand in the coming months.
“We are dedicated to supporting the transition to zero-emission vehicles in the commercial truck space, and adding Nikola Tre BEVs, and soon Nikola Tre FCEVs, is the perfect addition,” Heidler said. “Converting vehicles of this size to electric will be a game changer in reducing overall emissions. We have already seen robust sales of the new Nikola trucks.”
The Nikola Tre BEV can travel up to 330 miles on a single charge, and the Nikola Tre FCEV is expected to cover up to 500 miles on a tank of hydrogen.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) extends cost-saving incentives to accelerate the commercial vehicle transition to zero-emission technologies, and California is leading the way with California’s Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP), which provides point-of-sale vouchers to make vehicles more affordable.
Nikola is also developing hydrogen supply and refueling infrastructure in North America, with four previously announced stations located in the cities of Ontario, Colton, West Sacramento and a parcel servicing the Port of Long Beach.
Tom’s Truck Center said its teams work closely with HVIP and other incentive partners and are well-versed in the EV commercial marketplace and charging infrastructure options to assist customers.
The California dealer, which has served the region since 1949, provides new and used commercial vehicles, parts and service for medium- to heavy-duty (Classes 3-8) trucks and vans at its two locations: Santa Ana, Calif., and Santa Fe Springs, Calif.
Along with the new Nikola Tre BEV addition, Tom’s Truck Center also offers GreenPower EV cargo vans, Ford EV Transit cargo vans and REE EV Platforms; the dealer will fold in Hino EVs and Isuzu EV trucks next year.
“Fast chargers” are available for use at Tom’s Truck Center, which was onsite at this month’s ACT Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center.
“The future is the transition to zero-emission vehicles, and we are dedicated to being the leaders in the commercial truck space,” Heidler said. “We are thrilled to have these vehicles now available on site at our dealerships so everyone can experience these new electric trucks in person.”
