FAE releases new 20-tonne tracked carrier

FAE Group, a Italy-based machine, accessory and option designer and manufacturer, unveiled its newest tracked carrier: the PT550.

The 20-tonne unit will replace FAE’s PT475.

The PT550 meets US EPA Tier 4/EU Stage V standards with a Caterpillar C13B six-cylinder engine and a pump-and-motor system from Danfoss. It can deliver up to 536hp.

“The combined diesel particulate filter, selective catalytic reduction, and diesel oxidation catalyst guarantee compliance with Tier 4 Final/Stage V,” confirmed FAE. “The PT550 is also available with a Tier 3/Stage III A engine for emission-free markets.”

The PT550 has a 12.5-litre displacement and an electronically controlled proportional and reversible fan cooling system, which FAE said guarantees high performance on heavy jobs and in tropical climates.

Designed for applications in wooded areas and along oil/gas pipelines, FAE said the machine can handle soft, uneven and swampy ground. It can climb longitudinal slopes up to 45° and transverse inclines up to 32°.

“The lubricated track chains last longer than conventional chains and provide a smoother ride. When combined with the reliable dozer-type rollers and oscillating undercarriage technology, the PT550 offers superior grip and comfort,” said FAE. “The conventional geometry means a low centre of gravity and optimal contact between the chain and the drive wheel, two fundamental elements that provide the best performance, even on slopes.”

FAE PT550 options and attachments

There are two roller guard options to adapt to different environments and a pair of multitasking heads available, which can crush stone and till soil. The PT550 can also be equipped with a forestry mulcher.

Combined with FAE’s Sonic technology attachments, the head can maintain work at maximum capacity throughout use, as the tech adjusts the torque in real time according to the force required – for up to 30% higher productivity – the company said.

FAE added that each machine uses ‘Active Power Management’ technology, which combines floating system function with the load control function, “ensuring that the head always precisely follows along the ground and that power is managed effectively during operation.”
