Select Plant Hire invests in new Liebherr electric crawler
UK construction and building services supplier Select Plant Hire, part of international engineering firm Laing O’Rourke, will be the first business in the UK to take delivery of one of the new LR 1250.1 electric crawler cranes from Liebherr. Delivery of the 250 tonne capacity lattice jib model is scheduled for March 2021.
The LR1250.1 unplugged runs on electric power from either a mains cable for stationary operation and charging or from a set of lithium-ion batteries, allowing untethered free movement and full operation of all functions. Electric cranes produce no pollution at the point of use, are quieter than their diesel counterparts and need less maintenance.
Select said it made the investment as part of its commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
Select’s business unit leader Alex Warrington said, “We have always sought to lead the industry by sourcing cranes with the latest technology engines. We identified crawler cranes as an area of potential for electric machines and are proud to partner with Liebherr whose exciting product development have made this a reality.”
