Atlas Copco introduces new battery energy storage systems

The Power and Flow division of Atlas Copco has launched five new li-ion battery energy storage system (ESS) solutions.

The new ESS are intended for noise-sensitive environments, such as live events, inner-city construction sites and similar locations.

The portfolio additions include the ZBC 300-300 unit and a line of smaller ESSs: the ZBP 45-60; ZBP 45-75; ZBP 15-60; and the ZBP 2000. The last of these features two flexible solar panels to support sustainable energy collection.

The ZBC 300-300 joins the existing ZBC 250-500 and ZBC 500-250 models to complete the medium-size range of ESS. Housed in a container measing 10 feet, the system has a 4.5 MWh storage capacity. Up to 16 units can be connected in parallel.

The smaller units all feature a new design, with weight reductions up of up 70%. They can work alone in island mode, or they can be coupled with a diesel generator to form a hybrid solution.

They have very low maintenance costs, helping to reduce the total cost of ownership.

Dependent on application, the units can deliver more than 12 hours of power from a single charge. Some models can be charged in less than one hour.

The li-ion ESSs are suitable for high-energy demand situations with variable load profiles. Several units can be daisy-chained together to form a microgrid supplying more power.
