BHEL Wins Power Project

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) has won a contract for setting up a gas turbine-based captive power plant in India.

Valued at Rs.1034 Crore, the order has been placed by Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (HPCL) for its Visakh Refinery expansion project at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

BHEL’s scope of work in the contract envisages engineering, manufacture, supply, transportation, erection and commissioning and civil works of one gas turbine generator, one heat recovery steam generator and one steam turbine generator along with associated auxiliaries on LSTK basis.

This captive power plant is being set up to meet the power and steam required by HPCL for its planned refinery expansion from 8.33 to 15 MMTPA.

With this order, HPCL has reposed its confidence in BHEL for GTG-based captive power plants. BHEL continues to demonstrate its leadership status in India and abroad for gas turbine generator-based power plants with more than 230 gas turbine generator projects (executed/ under execution) including eight for HPCL’s refineries at Visakhapatnam and Mumbai.

The key equipment for this package shall be supplied by BHEL’s units at Hyderabad, Trichy, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Ranipet, Jhansi, Visakhapatnam and Rudrapur. The erection and commissioning of the project shall be undertaken by BHEL’s Power Sector – Eastern Region, Kolkata.
