Cummins Marine Diesels Get EU Certification
15 August 2016
Cummins Inc. announced that its QSB6.7, QSC8.3, QSL9 and QSM11 marine diesel engines have been certified to the European Union’s new Recreational Craft Directive 2013/53/EU (RCD 2) emissions regulation. RCD 2 applies to any recreational watercraft with a hull length between 2.5 and 24 m. Certification comes ahead of the Jan. 18, 2017, mandatory implementation date for RCD 2, which Cummins said makes it among the first marine diesel manufacturers to have its products certified.
All Quantum Series propulsion ratings previously available with RCD 1 certification are now certified to the stricter RCD 2 standard. Further, no design changes were required in order to achieve certification, ensuring minimal impact to installation requirements for OEMs, Cummins said.
“After Jan. 18, 2017, only products certified to RCD 2 may be made available to the EU market,” said Scott Malindzak, Marine Segment Leader. “Early certification ensures that OEMs using Cummins engines can continue to meet vessel delivery timelines with no disruption to build schedules.”
